'V for Victory' presented by Ivan Sayers & Denise Jacques
SMOC’s collections show us that past fashions are relevant today more than ever, especially in these challenging times.
In today’s video Ivan Sayers (SMOC Curator) & Denise Jacques (SMOC President) showcase ‘V for Victory’ items from our collection.
Featured in the video:
The red skirt was made by a high school girl from Mission, BC for a home economics project. She purchased the fabric from Saba's (a very popular fashion house in Vancouver), at a price of $2/ yard. The cotton fabric includes a print of a white 'V' with the blue morse code symbol for the same letter.
The larger hat is a daytime or afternoon hat, with a 'V' decorated with red wool, and the smaller hat features a red 'V' which would be placed at the back of the head.
The winter muff features a fur 'V' on one side, likely made from muskrat.
